On 12/27/2015, I received a phone call from a DEAR Friend, and business associate, informing me that, sadly, his stepson had passed. Me being of third generation in the Funeral business, my friend reached out to me for help. I was actually out of the country, and had to make ALL calls thru a secured, recorded, Sea To Shore phone line. Upon the request of the immediate Family,( And most importantly, the person that would be PAYING the bill!) I reached out to a Mr James Owens. After a very professional, and accurate introduction of who i was, Why I was calling etc. Mr Owens became very very rude, and told me he had NO interest in proceeding further, and the family should come back to the funeral home,(With CASH money ONLY) and pay him what he was due, and have another funeral home pick up the deceased, and handle the service. This turned out to be a blessing, even though he called the "significant other" of the deceased, and told her about my phone call and how I had so rudely spoken with him. Keep in mind, I already stated that I was on a secure and recorded line, to which I have Audio and printed transcripts of in my possession. To go ahead and put this to a close, I will finish up without telling anymore of the relevant details. In the end, instead of having to pay the almost $10,000 in charges that Mr Owens was trying to collect from the family, they were able to give him a proper, respectful burial for under $5,0000. This also includes(Mr Owens Fees) the almost $800.00 in charges for picking the deceased up and bringing back to his funeral home. The biggest problem that I have with the entire situation, is NOT Mr Owens LYING about how I had spoken to him.The Biggest problem that I have, is he HELD THE BODY CAPTIVE, until CASH and CASH Only was paid. No credit card allowed. CASH ONLY, on a weekend. Christmas Weekend to be exact. Well, Mr Owens, I hope you enjoyed your CASH, because under penalty of law, if YOUR company accepts credit cards as a normal routine of business, sir, you have not only broken the law, but you have violated these peoples CIVIL RIGHTS. I have taken it upon myself to pursue this matter
in order that SCUMBAGS,(NOW that is speaking to you rudely, and adequately) like you WILL NOT be able to treat ANYONE this way again! My first complaint will be with the Alabama State Funeral Board. And of course, I will work my way down the list to the Federal Fair Trade Commission, and ANY and ALL others that I deem necessary based on your sickening actions.
